November 1, 5 pm, marked the successful ending of the 4th International Art Expo Malaysia 2010.

Organising Chairman Vincent Sim said, “In this 5-day mammoth art event, sales of artworks of Rm 11 million were recorded, with the top sales attained by gallery Collectors Contemporary from Singapore, selling a set of Andy Warhol silkscreens to a Malaysian collector. The sales of artworks this year has doubled if compared to year 2008 (Rm 5.3 million) and year 2009 (Rm 5.6 million). About 12,000 visitors attended the art expo.”

From both the sales of artworks and number of visitors, it indicates a growing pool of art collectors and lovers. This is a good sign for the arts industry here in Malaysia.

Project Director Sim Pojinn said, “We are very happy this year, as we have got many reputable local and foreign art galleries / associations from 19 countries to participate in Art Expo Malaysia 2010. And, many exhibitors are happy with the expo, and have shown interest to participate again next year.”

The 19 countries are Argentina, China, Cuba, Ecuador, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, and of course, Malaysia.

Among the distinguished guests that have visited the expo were Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Perlis, Minister of Tourism YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen, Deputy Minister of Tourism YB Dato’ Dr. James Dawos Mamit, Director-General of National Art Gallery Ambassador Dato’ Mohd. Yusof Ahmad, Group CEO of Secret Recipe (Main Sponsor) Dato’ Steven Sim, Ambassadors of China, Korea, Japan, Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador, Venezuela, Uruguay, and High Commissioner of Singapore, and others.
